Simply Your Camping Trips

Many people believe that some of the best memories of their lives have come from family camping experiences. By involving the entire family, keeping it simple, and combining the trip with fishing, snorkeling, birding, photography, or metal detecting, you too can experience the trip of a lifetime.

Keep your equipment to a minimum, involving just enough tent space, sleeping materials, and cooking utensils to satisfy basic needs. Make sure the entire family is involved with the activities, chores, and responsibilities of your chosen campsite. One person could gather wood, another make sure there is a safe fire pit, or box, one person could arrange cooking gear and food, and you could all team up on tent erection, and sleeping gear placement. If you find that you have forgotten chairs, or some other item, let your creativity take control, and find logs or stumps to sit on.

Plan activities that are near the campsite, to keep travel or hiking time to a minimum, unless of course hiking is your primary objective. Always keep safety as a primary objective, by checking the area prior to your trip for predators, snakes, insect infestations, etc. Being prepared in advance with snakebite kit, insect spray, and medical supplies can make your trip much more enjoyable.

Some of my friends set up campsites near places that are abandoned sites of old stores, homes, or swimming holes in order to metal detect for coins, jewelry and artifacts. This can be a great way to get the family involved, and you may just find something very valuable. Camping near marshlands or lakes and inter-coastal waterways can provide some exciting and interesting photography or fishing experiences. Snorkeling can also be great fun, good exercise, and can yield artifacts, shells, and wonderful scenery.

Keeping equipment and supplies to a minimum, combining your trip with other objectives, and doing advance scouting and planning for your trip can yield both wonderful experiences, and memories that will last a lifetime.
