How Far Should Science and Technology Go? |

| Are you wondering how far science and technology should go? Do you sometimes wonder if they are going too far? Things like stem cell research, cloning, black hole machines, and more are hotly debated and people frequently wonder that just because science and technology can accomplish something doesn’t mean that it necessarily should. I think when it comes down to it the value of potential research should be weighed to determine if a particular technology would be worthwhile and valuable to the world. Obviously, stem cells could potentially save many lives. Should embryos be harvested for the specific fact of gaining stem cells? That’s an ethical question many people have and wonder about. Does the end justify the means? Things like cloning are not quite as difficult for people to have an opinion on because in general cloning has no major benefit. Sure, those who have lost a pet may get a replacement pet, although it’s never the same, but in general many people are not fans of cloning and think that cloning humans should be completely off limits. However, with this technology in existence it is only a matter of time before that happens, right or wrong. A new concern is the black hole machine that can apparently create small black holes. This is scary to many who believe that enough little black holes could be created and they would eat up matter. Others believe they are innocent and will cause more harm. However, is it worth the billions of dollars it took to build that machine when there are millions of children sick and starving around the world? There are lots of ethical questions that accompany science and technology and there always will be. It’s a fascinating field but also quite emotionally and intellectually charged. Because of this it is important for people to ask themselves what they believe in, what they support, and make a decision so they know where they stand.
