| You can search the web and find an article on practically every topic. It would be really easy, and save you a lot of time, to simply take an article and make it your own. It sounds tempting, right? Well, by doing this you are actually doing something illegal not to mention hurting your website beyond belief. The reason why is that search engines look out for something called “duplicate content.” When a website publishes plagiarized content it will be penalized for it. Also, web directories that find plagiarized content on their website will take the articles down and very likely block your account. So, as easy as it sounds to plagiarize it is definitely not in your best interest to do so. Keep in mind, too, that plagiarism is not just copying an article. It is copying any idea, in whole or part, that is not your own. So, the last thing you want to do is start researching on the web and taking a couple sentences here and there to create a new original article. It is not worth the time, effort, and risk involved. Now that you know what plagiarism is you will be able to avoid it. Original Content Original content is what is important on the Internet and that is why there is the saying “content is king”. It really should be “original content is king”, but the “original’ is implied! By creating original content you will do your site good, and article directories will happily print your article and give you the coveted back links to your site. If you are wondering how to write original content you will be relieved to know it is easy. All you need to do is come up with an idea, do enough research to familiarize yourself with the topic, and then start writing. Once you have completed the article all you need to do is edit it and publish it! The first article or two will be challenging, but in time you will actually become a pro and improve your writing skills, too. On the other hand, if you outsource articles you will want to ensure they are original content before taking the huge risk of publishing them on your site or in an article directory. There are several websites and programs, like Copyscape, that will help you out and tell you whether an article is original or not. These programs can really be a lifesaver for you and your website so use them! You may even want to use them for articles you write yourself to ensure you are not plagiarizing, either!
