Writing an article takes a little bit of effort and each one gets better with practice. However, there are a few ways you can improve articles from the start. One of them is article flow. The reason article flow is important is because people want to begin reading an article and have it flow in a logical manner. This means you start with an introduction to a topic, go on to discuss the topic, and then sum up the article with your conclusions. It is fairly easy to do once you are focused on it. However, if you simply start writing and don’t pay attention to article flow you could end up with an article that makes no sense at all.

The first thing you want to do is determine in your head how you want the article to flow. Once you have an idea it is good to go ahead and create the layout. So, you might want your Word document to look like this before you actually begin your writing:

Title

Introduction

Topic #1

Topic #2

Topic #3

Conclusion

If you create a layout like this then you make it much easier on yourself by creating a starting point. You know where to discuss topic A, topic B, and topic C. As a result, it is much easier to keep them separated and not mix topic A and C and then jump to topic B and A and so on and so forth. Creating a layout not only makes writing easier, it also makes it easier for the reader. So, you really kill two birds with one stone!

There are many ways to focus on article flow and these are important for you as a writer to learn and incorporate in your writing skills. First of all, if you article does not flow well you will lose readers within the first sentence or two. Secondly, if there is no article flow and people actually read the article it is likely they will be confused or get a different message than the one you intended. As a result, you can see why article flow is so important. The following tips are a few things you should keep in mind that will help with article flow!

Tip #1 Break Up the Article

Break up the article into sections. This makes it easier to read and the article will just flow better. You will also find it is easier to write an article in sections than one long paragraph.

Tip #2 Short Sentences

The average American has a seventh to eighth grade reading ability. That means you need to make sentences short and sweet and avoid overuse of commas. When you make articles easy to read more people will read them!

Tip #3 Short Articles

Don’t write super long articles and expect people to read them. Most people are interested in instant gratification. This means they want to read an article quickly and have it get to the point and answer their question fast. Keeping articles fairly short, usually under 500 words, is recommended.

Follow the suggestions mentioned in this article to help you improve article flow. It may take you some practice, but article flow is something you can learn!
